How Does the Coaching Process Work?
Together we define specific goals and outcomes which become the focus of our work. Goals may be performance oriented such as becoming a more skillful communicator or they may be related to leadership development to prepare for the next level of responsibility. Often the desired outcome is to create a vision for and a path towards your desired future.
I create a customized coaching plan for the engagement, which includes the coaching conversations combined with activities to engage in between sessions such as self-observation and reflection exercises, practices and readings. Assessments such as the MBTI and 360 interviews are often used to tailor the coaching plan.
Coaching engagements are typically six to eight months long. Most clients find that meeting twice a month for an hour or two works well. Meetings are in person or on the phone, which to many people’s surprise, works very well.
As the coaching engagement comes to a close, we assess against the program outcomes, and create a plan for next steps. Clients often arrange for on-going consultation or return for “tune-ups” after the initial engagement.
